What is a co-operative society?
Its very important to understand the meaning of a co-operative society from a layman term as well as legal term. The layman dictionary meaning of "co-operative" is "involving a group of people doing the same activities together to try to achieve the same thing, rather than trying to beat each other". In simple meaning, a person who has individual identity joins a group which is formed for the purpose of a common goal and do the same kind of activities to achieve it is called co-operative group. The Gujarat Co-operative Societies Act, 1961 was amended on 29.02.2024 which clearly had defined the difference between a Co-Operative Housing Society and a Co-Operative Housing Service Society.
